Homelessness is a complex issue with many causes. It is estimated that nearly one in every 210 New Yorkers is homeless — that’s 90,000 men, women, and children who don’t have the basic necessity of a safe and stable place to call home. There are many factors that contribute to homelessness, including lack of affordable housing, job loss, mental health issues, and substance abuse. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a significant impact on homelessness, as many people have lost their jobs and been unable to find new ones.
The city of New York has implemented a number of policies and programs to address homelessness, but these efforts have not been enough. More needs to be done to help homeless individuals and families get back on their feet. This blog will explore the causes of homelessness, the impact of COVID-19 on homelessness, the policies and programs in place to address homelessness, the experiences of homeless individuals, advocacy and activism around homelessness, and the intersectionality of homelessness.
Our goal is to raise awareness about homelessness and to promote policies and programs that will help homeless individuals and families get back on their feet. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and stable place to live, and we are committed to working towards a solution to homelessness.
We hope you will join us in our efforts to help homeless individuals and families in New York City and stay tuned for our next blog post – The Lack of Affordable Housing.
